National Industrial Design
An Industrial Design
gives its owner an exclusive right (for use and to prevent unauthorized
permission), about the appearance of a part or the whole product,
remarking its characteristics, such as, lines, outlines, colors,
shape, texture, materials or ornamentation. They can be two-
or three-dimensional.
The protection of Industrial Designs are five years from the date
of its application, and can be renovated every five years, for
a maximum of twenty-five years, from its application date.
Community Industrial Designs
The
Community design gives a protection of a shape or graphic of two
or tree dimensions in the 15 countries of the European Union, through
an application, procedure, assignment and maintenance before the
OAMI (Office of Harmonization of the Domestic Market), as it is
made with the Community Trademark. The present advantage is that
there is no exam or objection to a third part.
The validity of the Industrial Design is five years from its application
date on, and can be renovated through a payment every five years
to a maximum of twenty five years.

International Industrial Design
Through a single payment at the
WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), a register of
an Industrial Design can be simultaneously obtained in those countries
within The Hague Agreement, which are the followings:
Belgium, Belize, Benin, Bulgaria, Cote d'Ivore, Croatia, Democratic
Republic of Korea, Dutch West Indies, Federal Republic of Costa
Marfil, Egypt, Estonia, France, Gabon, Georgia, Germany, Greece,
Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein,
Luxembourg, Moldova, Monaco, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Rumania,
Senegal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Surinam, Switzerland, Ukraine.
The validity of an Industrial Design is ten years, and can be renovated
for ten more years.
